The Clintons should be ashamed of themselves for deliberately trying to wreck the presidential prospects of their party’s likely nominee.

On GI Bill, McCain really is ‘full of it’

A couple of weeks ago, John McCain talked about the importance of increasing the size of the U.S. military. To entice more volunteers, he said, the government should focus on incentives: “[O]ne of the things we ought to do is provide [the troops with] significant educational benefits in return for serving.” A few days later, McCain announced that he opposes a bipartisan measure to renew and expand the GI Bill for a new generation of veterans. Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.), the leading proponent of the modernized GI Bill, called McCain out.

NY Times, Washington Post Confirm Arianna's Story That McCain Did Not Vote For Bush

On Monday, Arianna reported that John McCain told her he had not voted for George W. Bush in 2000. Today, both The New York Times AND The Washington Post published articles with sources confirming John McCain had indeed told Arianna and others at an event that he did not vote for Bush in 2000. From The New York Times: Did Senator John McCain not vote for George W. Bush in 2000? That question has kicked up a minor ruckus in political circles this week as Arianna Huffington and the McCain campaign have traded he-said, she-said barbs...

Was Hillary channeling George Wallace?

Hillary's reckless exploitation of racial division could split the Democratic Party over race -- a tragic legacy for the Clintons.

West Virginia could spell trouble for Obama

In Hardy County, Democrats outnumber Republicans more than 2 to 1. But there is little enthusiasm for Barack Obama in this mountainside enclave, a portent of trouble for the Illinois senator in next week's West Virginia primary and the general election beyond.

McCain Pushed Land Swap That Benefits Backer

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Sen. Krugman has some decent ideas. Robinson has a sense of entitlement

We know, we know—by all press corps scripts, it’s Clinton who feels so entitled. And no one knows such scripts better than Gene. He launched that particular Standard Assessment in today’s opening paragraph: ROBINSON (5/9/08): From the beginning, Hillary Clinton has campaigned as if the Democratic nomination were hers by divine right. That's why she is falling short—and that's why she should be persuaded to quit now, rather than later, before her majestic sense of entitlement splits the party along racial lines. Perfect scripting!

I Don’t Think “Exclusivity” Means What John Yoo Thinks It Does

I wanted to focus some attention on one tiny part of the interchange I highlighted yesterday. In the guise of explaining to Administraton apologist David Rivkin the Kafkaesque process by which he has gotten some of the Office of Legal Counsel's opinions declassified, Sheldon Whitehouse revealed he has been trying to get one more opinion declassified--one relating to exclusivity: I'd be delighted to show you the whole rest of the opinion [stating that the President tells DOJ how to interpret law] but I'm not allowed to. It's classified. I had to fight to get these declassified. They made me take ... they kept my notes.

Republicans vote against Mother’s Day.

On Wednesday, the House took up the seemingly uncontroversial H. Res. 1113, “Celebrating the role of mothers in the United States and supporting the goals and ideals of Mother’s Day.” The resolution initially passed 412 to 0, until Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) rose in protest: Mr. Speaker, I ask for a recorded vote because I’m sure every member wants their mother to know that they have supported the goals of Mother’s Day. Tiahrt’s mother, however, may be disappointed to know that her son did not support Mother’s Day. He and 177 other Republicans decided to cast their vote against mothers.

War With Iran Might Be Closer Than You Think

There is considerable speculation and buzz in Washington today suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Qods-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants. The camp that will be targeted is one of several located near Tehran. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates was the only senior official urging delay in taking any offensive action.

Thinking About November

Barack Obama has an extraordinary opportunity in this year’s election. He should do everything possible to avoid squandering it.

Today's Must Read

Once again, Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) invulnerability to the charms of lobbyists and his campaign supporters is put to the test. This time it's The Washington Post going front page with the tale of McCain's role in a major Arizona land swap in 2005. The basic thrust is this: a rancher owning 250 acres that intermingled with federally owned forest started pushing for a land swap that provide him with federal land in exchange for his own -- land that he could develop. Such land swaps are fairly common, though obviously easily abused.

When a woman does ascend through the glass ceiling into the White House, it will be, in part, because of the race of 2008, when Hillary Clinton got down with the boys.

3 accused of using Humble corpse's head to smoke pot

The Kingwood teenager's story of decapitating a corpse and using the head to smoke marijuana was so outlandish that at first Houston Police Department senior police officer Jim Adkins did not believe it. Yet, Kevin Wade Jones Jr., 17, appeared almost indifferent as he relayed the bizarre description of his and two friends' activities at an Humble area graveyard, Adkins said. "I just doubted it because it's very morbid, and I couldn't see anybody doing something like this," Adkins said Thursday.
