Attacks on U.S. Troops in Iraq Grow in Lethality, Complexity

Debate

Sunday, June 03, 2007 Debate by digby I think the question I enjoyed the most in the Democratic debate was the one where Wolf asked them all what they would do if they were tied to a bed naked with a ticking time bomb and a bunch of terrorists rushed into the room and started kibitzing among themselves about where to get the best Botox in Miami. Or maybe it was the one where he asked them all to raise their hands if they agree that killing is wrong - and if so, doesn't that indicate that Democrats can't lead? I can't decide. I just love those multi-part yes/no hypotheticals. Actually, I'm being unfair.

Steve Gilliard, 1966-2007

--by Sara It's not news to anyone that the Internet is an emotionally complicated place. It binds us tightly to people we may never see in person. It makes us care about things that are farther away than we might ever imagine. It gives us communities in which we can celebrate and grieve things that those we share our meatworld homes with may not understand.

Freed Alterman

The man explains: Ok, here's what happened. I came to New Hampshire with the Creative Coalition for a panel tomorrow morning and was supposed to be in the auditorium for the debate but because I am a journalist, they were told I would have to wait in the spin room. When I got to the spin room, which was an empty gymnasium, I noticed that there were chairs located on a balcony above us. So I went up there--no one asked me for my ID or anything--and went over to the bar and asked if it was a cash bar, because I had no idea what kind of event it was.

Steve Gilliard, 1966-2007

I first started corresponding with Steve Gilliard in January of 2005 when he was embroiled in a battle with Jonah Goldberg over the Armstrong Williams kerfuffle. I don't remember what it was that triggered the conversation (I probably read this and laughed my ass off and wanted to let him know) but we became friends. Steve eventually became a contributor to FDL, and his interest in military history always made him someone I looked to for this thoughts about Iraq. His passion, his take-no-prisoners attitude and his willingness to tell you exactly what he thought (whether you wanted to hear it or not) made him a wondereful and valued friend.
